Stop Forcing Productivity: Work With Your Body, Not Against It
My heart is telling me to share with you this feeling I’ve been having lately. You’ve heard that old saying, “Get your ducks in a row” before, right? You already know it means we should get (or stay) organized, but what if you’re not??
What if those cute little buggers refuse? What then??
If you’re anything like me, you start to get down on yourself when things feel a little chaotic. You might feel like a slacker for not being more organized. I’ve got news for you – it’s normal to feel that way sometimes so don’t feel bad. Well…maybe just a little, because it pushes us to take action😉
So here’s a hack to help you get more organized. No, I’m not going to try to sell you on some new productivity app, or organizer tool. Seeing things like those just makes us feel like bigger slackers, amiright?!
This is a body hack. A pro tip on how to work in harmony with your mind/body to get and stay organized…well ok, at least better organized😉 Are you ready?? Here it comes…
Your body has scientifically proven times when it is more capable of being organized. Wait, what?? Yes, it’s true! The opposite side of the coin is that your body has times when it is less agreeable to getting organized. Like climbing a mountain versus strolling in the soft green grass.
Both men and women have cyclical patterns or flows: Creative Phase, Extrovert Phase, Methodical Phase, and Introvert Phase. In that order.
Men (and post menopausal women) go through this cycle every 24 hours. Pre-menopausal women complete the cycle every 28 days or so. So the key is to look inwards and identify these phases in yourself and WHEN they happen.
Your Methodical Phase is prime time for getting organized. This is when checking items off your To Do List, and organizing your tasks feels good. It doesn’t feel good, or feels downright impossible, in your other phases. If you try to get organized during your Creativity Phase, you’re likely to feel stifled and do it poorly.
So give yourself permission to go with the flow of your body and do things when your body tells you it’s the right time. Anything else is just begging for self-sabotage. I could literally go on and on about this and flood you with details, but hey, I know you’ve got other stuff to do, right? So, get on out there and do it…when it feels right.
Plus, think about setting up a Success Session with me where we can dig deep, identify your personal cycle and nail down how to make it work FOR you instead of against you. You might be thinking, “Cool Megan, I get it - I’ll pay more attention to my phases.” But let’s be real: most people intend to track this stuff, but end up falling off because they’re not sure how to recognize the signs or how to actually apply it. Without a clear strategy, you’re likely to stay in the same loop - feeling off-track and overwhelmed. That’s why having my support makes all the difference. You’ll get guidance, structure, and confidence that you’re finally doing it right. Email me now to maximize your productivity!
Take care, and always...aspire to be better, my friend!
