Are You Losing Music Royalties Without Even Knowing It?

Can I take a minute to get on my soapbox? Raise your hand if you pay attention to metadata on your song files. Don't worry. If you said, "Meta-whut?? Is that a Facebook thing or something?" You're not alone. MANY of the musicians I help say that.

What is metadata, and why should we musicians care? Metadata is details like: song title, artist name, publisher, genre, etc. Why is it important? Ensuring the correct metadata is attached to our tracks is crucial for us because it ensures we get paid properly when our songs are streamed or purchased online. Incorrect or missing metadata can result in lost royalties or misattribution of earnings.

Is your streaming revenue low? Or maybe it just seems lower than it should be? It could be an issue with your metadata. Even if you're already using software for metadata, it's easy to miss something critical without a second pair of experienced eyes. Most tools don't warn you about the mistakes that can cost you. And if you're trusting your digital distributor like CD Baby and others to handle it for you during upload, that can be risky too. They often apply generic defaults or overlook important fields like songwriter, publisher, or ISRC codes - which can lead to lost income or misattributed royalties. You made the music, now let's make sure you're getting credit and paid for every single stream. Email me now so we can discuss things and find an option that fits you.

Take care, and always...aspire to be better, my friend!

PS: On a side note, some people have a big, underlying problem: their platform stinks! I was never fully happy with platforms like Drip, Wordpress and Shopify so I decided to build my own - the platform of my dreams🤩 Now I’m offering it to people who also feel the pain of paying WAY too much for essential tools that don’t stink. Let me know if you want details.
