Escape the Content Hamster Wheel - Part 1, Get Off the Wheel

June 29, 20262 min read

🐹Are you Zuckerberg's pet?

Hamsters are cute, but being one isn't. Can we talk about social media for a minute? Specifically, the 🐹hamster wheel?

Hamsters are adorable little pets. Mark Zuckerberg's pet? Not so much.

Too many musicians and authors wake up in the morning wondering, "What am I supposed to post today?" Then they spend an hour creating something, post it, get a handful of likes, and do it all over again tomorrow.

That's not marketing. That's unpaid labor.

Social media companies love it when we spend all day feeding their platforms with fresh content. Meanwhile, your songs don't get written. Your books don't get finished. Your merch doesn't get designed.

Your job isn't to feed the algorithm.

Your job is to create amazing art and give people a chance to discover it.

The good news? You don't need to post every day. You don't need to dance (unless it’s a happy-dance because you sold 100 CD’s this month). You don't need to become a full-time content creator.

You just need a smarter system.

Imagine spending less time worrying about Facebook, Insta, TikTok, etc., and more time making music, writing stories, performing shows, or hanging out with people you actually like. Crazy concept, right??😆

This has become a mindset problem for SO many artists nowadays, I think the topic deserves its own series. Over the next few emails, I'm going to show you how to maintain a strong social media presence without becoming Elon Musk’s unpaid employee.

Until then, step off the hamster wheel for a minute and give yourself permission to create.

You've earned it.

Escaping the hamster wheel is easier said than done because most creators don't even realize what's keeping them stuck. There are a handful of small shifts that can save you hours every week, and missing just one of them can keep you spinning in circles. If you're ready to spend less time worrying about social media and more time creating what you love, let's schedule a Success Session and build a system that's tailored specifically to you.

Take care, and always...aspire to be better, my friend!

PS: In the next installment of Escape the Content Hamster Wheel, I'll show you how to turn one song or book chapter into 20 social media posts without sounding repetitive.

PPS: On a side note, many artists have a big, underlying problem: your posting platform stinks! I was never fully happy with expensive platforms like Hootsuite, Later and Post Planner so I decided to build my own - the platform of my dreams! Now I’m offering it to my music colleagues and clients who also feel the pain of paying WAY too much for time-saving tools that don’t stink. Let me know if you want details by hitting Reply..
