Escape the Content Hamster Wheel - Part 3, No Injured Flamingos
🦩Good news: You can forget about dance moves
How to make great videos without embarrassing yourself...
Let's talk about Reels and TikTok for a minute. Specifically, the fear many creatives have that social media requires them to dance around like an injured flamingo🦩 I hear it all the time.
"Megan, I don't dance."
Good! Neither do I.
The funny thing is that some of the best-performing content for musicians and authors doesn't involve dancing at all.
A songwriter can point a camera at a guitar and play 20 seconds of a new song. An author can read a favorite passage from a book. You can show your writing desk, your recording session, your notebook full of ideas, or even your cat "helping" you work🐱 People don't follow creatives because they're looking for professional dancers.
They follow because they enjoy your art and they're curious about the creative process. The secret is to stop thinking like a "content creator" and start thinking like a storyteller.
Instead of asking, "What should I do?" Ask, "What can I show?"
That's a much easier question.
And before you tell yourself nobody wants to see your behind-the-scenes content, remember this: what feels ordinary to you often feels fascinating to your audience.
So reach out today to book a Success Session with me. Together, we'll strategize a big fat list of ideas that work for you, specifically. No choreography required...unless you really DO want to dance, which is fine too😎
Take care, and always...aspire to be better, my friend!
~Megan🙌
PS: On a side note, many artists have a big, underlying problem: your posting platform stinks! I was never fully happy with expensive platforms like Hootsuite, Later and Post Planner so I decided to build my own - the platform of my dreams! Now I’m offering it to my music colleagues and clients who also feel the pain of paying WAY too much for time-saving tools that don’t stink. Let me know if you want details by hitting Reply..
